Fano and Around
Fano and Around – Hotel Sassonia
The Hotel Sassonia is located at the eastern waterfront in Fano, not far from the marina port and the picturesque old town just 5 minute walk.
Fano is a town of Roman origin which was born in the north of the mouth of the river Metaurus, today it is the third largest city in the Marche relating to importance and number of inhabitants.
Symbol of the city is the Arch of Augustus, which in Roman times was the main gateway to the city. Today a part of the historic center is bounded from the Arch itself and the walls are still preserved today for about two-thirds of the original circuit.
We recommend a visit to the underground of Fano and the two main churches, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Basilica of San Paterniano.
Another very important area of the city is the port area and beaches. The various coasts of Fano and the beaches are divided into two parts: the eastern side of Sassonia also called the beach of smooth stones, while to the west lies the classic sandy beach.
